It’s very interesting how
life throws one around: I have been working as a molecular geneticist for 10
years, 9.5 of those being absolutely sure that this is what I was going to do
for the rest of my life. I think what I enjoyed about working in science was
three things: the beauty and wonders of nature, doing things with my hands and
thinking. Doing crafts, I enjoy the same things: many of my designs are
inspired by the beauty of nature, I definitely do lots of things with my hands,
and I think in the meantime! As far as I remember, the love for crafts always
went side by side with the love for nature and science in me.
The Seaberry name comes from a childhood experience of picking
sea-berries in Novosibirsk, in Siberia, on my grandmother’s allotment. The
berries were to be made into a delicious jam. It must have been September, wet
and so cold that my fingers went numb. The sea-berries have rather hard skin,
but are very squishy inside, and are firmly attached to a branch via a short
stalk. All this makes it hard work to pick them without squishing! This is
where precise finger movements become important to achieve a good result– just as
with crafts.
